School Spirit Shirt

Hi, everyone! It's been a while. School started, and I got super busy! And while I have stacks of papers to grade at this very moment, I just had to post this project because it's just been too long since I've posted on here!
Fridays at my school are casual days. We can wear jeans if we donate a couple dollars to the Relay for Life. (A very good cause, might I add!) Everyone always likes to support the football team on Fridays too. I went to a local store to buy a school t-shirt to wear this Friday, but they hardly had any shirts to choose from. So I decided to make my own!
I stopped by Wal-mart on the way home from school Thursday and picked up these supplies.

I bought a $5 t-shirt, two spools of ribbon (I already had one to use at home.), matching thread, and buttons. Of course, I had scissors already.

When I got home, I made different sizes of ribbon flowers. (You can find many tutorials for ribbon flowers on the internet.) I put clear nail polish along the seam edge of the flowers to make sure the ribbon doesn't fray when I wash the shirt.  I then sewed the flowers in an arrangement I liked around the neck of my t-shirt. I sewed buttons in the center of each ribbon flower. Then I had an awesome shirt to wear that shows my school spirit AND my craftiness!!! I'm not sure which is more important....

So show your support for your favorite team this football season by making a cute t-shirt. It will save you from having to wear that worn-out football helmet t-shirt that used to belong to your husband! ;)

  3. Bethany,
In short, I am amazed by you in just a short 10 minutes I've been on your blog. I LOVE this shirt, and you are really inspiring my to start crafting again! My husband, Nick Jolly, works and now coaches with Chad at CRMS, so I think this shirt is a must for my wardrobe! Heres to hoping I can make it as great as you have!
